The project is part of the Tasmanian Government’s South East Traffic Solution, which is being delivered to maintain the liveability of Sorell and the Southern Beaches by improving travel time reliability and safety.

We will be delivering the project in two stages, with the Midway Point Causeway and McGees Bridge being upgraded first, followed by the Sorell Causeway.

Extensive environmental studies are being completed to better understand the impact of the project on the threatened Tasmanian live-bearing seastar, the Pitt Water Nature Reserve, migratory shorebirds and the Pitt Water – Orielton Lagoon Ramsar wetland. These studies will help to protect the environment, inform environmental approvals and the project’s final design.
