The Department of State Growth is seeking feedback on the draft Medium Density Design Guidelines.

Medium density housing includes a broad range of multiple-dwelling housing types ranging from small lot housing through to terraces, townhouses and low- to mid-rise apartment buildings.

The guidelines are intended to provide best-practice guidance to planners, designers and developers in the preparation and assessment of medium density development proposals from the earliest stages.

They also provide the community with insight into what quality medium density housing looks like and how such developments can occur within existing built-up areas without adversely impacting on local heritage and character.

Development of the guidelines was led by ERA Planning & Environment and included engagement with stakeholders and experts from across industry and government, including planners, developers, designers and architects.

The aim of this consultation process is to provide stakeholders and the community with an opportunity to review and help shape what medium density housing in Tasmania should look like.
