The River Derwent Ferry Service Expansion

As part of the River Derwent Ferry Service Expansion, the Tasmanian Government is prioritising expanding ferry services to Lindisfarne, Wilkinsons Point and Sandy Bay over the next four years. The government is currently working closely with the Greater Hobart Councils to identify suitable sites for ferry terminals at these locations.

These locations are highlighted in the River Derwent Masterplan, which guides the expansion of ferry services on the River Derwent. As well as Hobart and Bellerive, the Masterplan identifies the best places to add ferry services as:

  • Lindisfarne
  • Sandy Bay
  • Wilkinsons Point
  • Howrah
  • Kingston Beach
  • Regatta Point

Public consultation for the draft Masterplan closed on 8 January 2024. The feedback is being used to inform ongoing work on expanding ferry services.

Bellerive Ferry Terminal upgrade

Feedback received from the draft River Derwent Ferry Service Masterplan is being considered as part of building a new ferry terminal at Bellerive. The design for this terminal will be used as a template for future terminal constructions as part of the broader River Derwent Ferry Service Expansion.
